Wire Wound Ignition Core

Ignition core is the current carrying part of a spark plug wire. We make wire wound ignition core. Some people call this spiral wound ignition core. Our customers buy the wound core from us, extrude the core, terminate the ends and make what most people think of as a spark plug wire. Our bread and butter is producing a wide range of spiral wound or wire wound ignition cores.

Low Cost Wire Wound Ignition Core

In the current financial environment, cost is especially important. We can produce affordable material wound directly on fiberglass or Kevlar. Our custom-designed hand-built winding machines can use high resistance wire as small as .00175”. When wound on bare fiberglass or Kevlar, this produces a very affordable product. This construction is great for high-volume low-cost needs, economy cars and large urbane markets.

High End LGM Ferrite Ignition Core

We also make LGM Ferrite Core specially designed to provide high performance ignition, while reducing radio frequency interference (RFI). We believe we make the best ferrite core available today. Ferrite cores (also called reactive or inductive cores) can be made with low resistance and high inductance. LGM Ferrite Core produces the hottest spark with the least electromagnetic noise. These RFI busting designs are used in race cars, on heavy duty trucks and RVs or for any application where high performance or noise reduction are paramount.

It’s important to remember that LGM is a custom winder. We don’t keep “stock items.” Everything is made to your exact specifications. We can wind ignition core based on your design, or create a design based on 20 years in the business. We can also improve existing designs, or reduce costs, by suggesting alternate constructions or materials.
